6:00 am
Wake Up
In the morning our students do a number of things to get prepared for their day. This can include self-care, personal hygiene and stewardships like laundry and/or cleaning their personal space.

Heart Training & Morning Mindfulness
We looked at 15 different programs before deciding to apply for Calo
Each program listed a dozen or more things that they do, services they provide, and somewhere in that list was “early childhood trauma with attachment disorder.” That wasn’t good enough for us. We didn’t want our son in a program where his particular need was only one aspect of their program. It’s impossible to do that many things, and do them all well. Calo does one thing, and does it with commitment and excellence.
7:00 - 7:50 am

Adventure Therapy
Adventure Therapy
Students are trained for a 100-mile bike ride on the Katy trail in Missouri through weekly fitness exercise routines and cycling excursions around campus. We also utilize weekly Ropes Course and other Adventure Activities culminating in a camping trip or “Engineered Experience”.
Canine Therapy
Canine Therapy
Calo Canine Therapy Department utilizes Golden retrievers to help students experientially live and learn the Calo model.
Through daily interactions with the canines, the students get to experience in real time the elements of the CASA model.
Team Building
Team Building
Facilitated by our Adventure Therapy team, team building activities create a space for our students to work through relationships with their peers and push themselves into the “growth zone”. During this time the students participate in ropes corse, climb the rock wall or navigate activities that encourage them to practice the tools of effective communication, role model constructive feedback, and focus on the soft skills gained through individual and family therapy.
Calo offers an exceptional model for kids with early childhood trauma and attachment disorders
Supported by insightful, competent, and caring therapists, psychiatrist, and staff. By the time someone is considering residential treatment, the journey to that point has likely already been long, hard, and lonely-for parents and kids alike! We have found Calo to be an exceptional partner on this challenging journey and we are thankful to have found the program. Our son’s progress is slow and we know it will take time, but we also know we are in good hands and are giving ourselves and our son the opportunity for growth and healing—and ultimately joy!

This place has completely changed my life
I was a past student at Calo and this place truly created a path of opportunity where I can learn to trust again and have healthy relationships. The canine program here is truly outstanding. Transferable attachments can be healing, first comes the human to dog trust then comes the human to human relationship. Kids with developmental trauma have to start somewhere.

Evening Activities
Evening activities include a number of interventions and scheduled events and vary by team home. This is also time for the girls to participate in their individual and family sessions with their therapist and participate in neurofeedback sessions. Evening activities include but are not limited to: social calls, media room time, off campus outings, and/or Adventure Therapy team building activities.
Social Calls
In addition to your weekly family session, which is facilitated via Skype, each child gets a weekly call back home. This call is scheduled, to ensure you wont miss it and can last 15-20 minutes long.
Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback
Once a student starts Neurofeedback,(after their 90 day integration period), students are offered 2 neurofeedback sessions each week.

Media Room
The media room at Calo houses several gaming consoles and big screen TV’s. Time in the media room is built into each team home’s schedule and during this time the students are allowed to play pre-approved video games with one another and/or watch movies.
